Video Games Thread 2016 (Fallout 4)
I can't remember if there's already been a thread this year for Video Games, but the announcement of Fallout 4 is deserved of a thread of its own.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lnn2rJpjar4

7 YEARS since the last one (discounting New Vegas which was great but pretty much a huge expansion of Fallout 3).

The trailer looks absolutely beautiful and despite a few complaints about some of the textures and lighting, has been very well received. The full release anouncement will be at E3 a week Sunday.

Hopefully it's gonna be good.

There's been so many video games released recently that have been over hyped yet been full of bugs when they've come out.

That never happened in my day when I was in the industry.

Who needs to kiss girls when you can scavenge through the post-apocalyptic wastelands of the Fallout universe?

Re: Video Games Thread 2016 (Fallout 4)
Not many games interest me anymore simply because they have no real longevity. The only game I still play regularly due to it's popularity, open world, on line features, regular updates is GTA5.
Takes a lot for me to want to part with £40-50 for a game I may be bored with after a few weeks.

All CoD games now are lifeless borefests, same goes for Battlefield.

I find myself playing more indie games these days. Limbo, Fez etc.

Great announcement from one of the few major studios worth a damn. Fallout 3 is one of my favourite games ever, so I hope this is different enough to keep my interest.

The only disappointing aspect of this is the way games seem to announce before E3, rather than at it. The spectacle of the biggest week in gaming, and one of my favourite media events of the year, is damaged.

Nice idea to start a general thread btw. Always fun to hear what people are playing on here.

Re: Video Games Thread 2016 (Fallout 4)
Well, this is pretty much a teaser, Alex, hopefully there will be something a fair bit more meaty at E3. I'll certainly be tuning in anyway.

Recent games I've been playing
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
I'd never played the previous two but given the comparisons with Skyrim I figured I'd give it a go. I don't think it is as accessible as Skyrim, but certainly a good game and there's a lot to it.

Borderlands 2: Handsome Collection
Remaster of the earlier games upscaled for current gen. Again, I hadn't played any of the previous iterations but this is a massively fun game. A pretty braindead FPS but the upgrade of weapons etc makes it worthwhile.

GTA5 still gets a spin quite often. I haven't gotten bored of the heists as of yet.

Re: Video Games Thread 2016 (Fallout 4)
Maybe they have some Fallout surprises still for E3 - some announcement of co-op or multiplayer would be really interesting.

Witcher 3 I have avoided - I tried the first two games and something about them really didn't suit me. Too much hand-holding I think.

Re: Video Games Thread 2016 (Fallout 4)
I am hyped for Fallout 4. At the same time I fear they will dumb down the RPG elements like they did with Skyrim. New Vegas was spot on in terms of RPG elements, but for me wasn't quite as good a game as Fallout 3. Also fear it will be more politically correct.. I still wanna become a drug addict or a drunk and shoot kids!

In the past year I have predominantly been playing:

Dark Souls 2
Bloodborne
Mortal Kombat X
Ultra Street Fighter 4

One of my favourite pastimes: killing noobs in online games then receiving hatemail for it :-)

Really looking forward to this! Good that it won't have to be compromised to play on old consoles too. Just PC, Xbox One and PS4. A proper new-gen title.

Loved Fallout 3, but was a bit 'meh' about Vegas though - didn't like the way the world was sectioned off and to much to and fro in the city area.

The new Arkham Knight is out this month too. Looks the bollocks.

Alex, I've been playing Witcher 3 and think it's excellent. Better story and characters than Skyrim, which I really enjoyed anyway. Haven't played 1 or 2 though so can't really give you a comparison.

Does anybody have this EA Access thing on XBox one? I was looking to download Madden and they offered me this option. Is it worth it?

I don't have an Xbox One but it seems like decent value. £4 a month is a lot cheaper than buying each game, that's for sure. I don't suppose they put the brand new games on the service though.

I think both Playstation Plus and Xbox Live are well worth subscribing to. You get 3-4 games free a month on Xbox, and 6 on Ps+ - pretty fantastic value (they are on different formats though, so it helps if you own multiple ones).
